Stax Museum scheduled to reopen January 23 after temporary closure due to COVID conditions

The Stax Museum of American Soul Music will reopen Saturday, January 23, 2021 with normal operating hours after being temporarily closed in accordance with a Shelby County COVID Health Directive with restrictions regarding public and private gatherings and area businesses operating at reduced capacity. We will reopen at 10 a.m. and remain open with regular hours (Tuesday – Sunday, 10-5, closed Mondays) unless instructed otherwise by City and County directives.

While there was not an official “Shelter in Place” order during our brief, temporary closure, we, like many museums in Memphis, made this decision out of concern for the safety of our staff, vendors, volunteers, and guests, and to do our part in stopping the rapid spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus.

Strict safety protocols remain in place, including mandatory masks for all employees and guests, acrylic shields at our front desk, social distancing signage and seating in our theater, regular cleanings daily, cashless transactions only, removal of high-touch exhibit items, limited groups, and other measures.
